ORIGINAL PUBLICATION ANNOUNCEMENT

Ricks, The Descendants of Jonas Ricks and Other Ricks Families in America,(Dexter, Mich., Donald M. Ricks, 1998)

I completed all writing tasks 15 October 1997. The books are now available, printed by Thomson-Shore, Inc. There are 255 pages. Included is a table of contents, a preface, eleven chapters, an appendex, and an index.

Only 365 copies of the book were printed. Books will be shipped first to those who first paid their copy. In the following years, I plan to publish at my web site any major revelation or corrections received from the public. Anyone interested in a Ricks Family newsleter, let me know; we'll organize one.

The price for each copy is now $25, plus $3 for shipping and handling. The book has a hard cover and specifications such as Kivar 7 cloth material, smythe sewn rounded and backed, headbands and footbands, acid-free 60# Joy White Offset, 440 ppi paper, about 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches, with gold foil impression (title) on the front and spine. This is a non-profit venture, and you have my word as a Ricks on that point. I expect to recover only my out of pocket expenses in publishing, and the price reflects that attitude accordingly. No, I will not seek compensation for the thousands of hours spent obtaining the information and putting it into readable and understandable form. If I totaled up all the mail, copy, and research costs, none of us would like the compensation price. This work is for the family, and nothing more than that.

DVD Version Being Offered!

A DVD-ROM version of the book is also available, via an on-order basis, which includes the original and update files (not publication ready) version of my book since publication in 1998. Additionally, I have decided to also include a copy of all research record files and reports and my correspondence via e-mail (edited for sensitive issues) available from my files from 1995-2005.

The specification and restriction concerning the use of the data offered is that you can not make copies and distrubute the material over the internet or via e-mail for a period of seventy-five years from the year 1995. Privacy Act restrictions apply, and violators are subject to the copyright and privacy laws of the United States.

You may use the material to help write and organize your own publications (short quotes from the book and other non-privacy matter entries, provided appropriate credit and citations apply). You must sign an agreement to comply with these restrictions, not only for my protection, but also the protection of those who corresponded with me over the years.The price of the DVD is $100, plus a $3 shipping fee, to anywhere in the United States.

I do not have these DVDs mass produced, so your (or at least the first purchaser's) order will take an appropriate amount of time for me to actually compile the records and burn the data onto a DVD. There might be little or no interest in this offer, but I am available for consultation about the specific purpose and use of the material by any individual or organization.
