Ricks-Lallemand Connection
Sometime during 1961, at Vassincourt, France, I met Chantal Arlette Michele Lallemand, born 7 December 1942, at Bar-le-Duc, a French girl a few months older than me. We soon became inseparable, and within three months were engaged to be married. Her style and personality captured my emotions more and more each day we were together, until I fell into an admiring love for her and her ways. I lost all concentration at work and began to watch the clock, and started the walk toward her village at every opportunity. My friendship with other soldiers in my unit began to mellow, and I had little concern for their company. She was the primary interest of this young man at the age of eighteen. My Polish friend, Mario Kowalski, was an encouraging force during those young years, and he was a good friend to the Lallemand family.
Chantal and her family lived in the village of Revigny sur Ornain, located about ten kilometers from Vassincourt. There were two other siblings in her family, a younger brother named Francise, who lived with the family at Revigny, and an older brother, Bertrand, who was married and lived in the city of Nancy. I visited the family on foot or by riding a loaned moped. Chantal's father, Robert Lallemand (1910—1982), was a brick layer, who spent most of his time at home talking with his wife and family, or enjoying a drink vin rouge wine while sitting at the kitchen table near his wife. Chantal's mother, Paulette (Guerand) Lallemand, cooked the finest food I can remember—and kept her house spotless. I recall being there when they obtained their first electric refrigerator. She often invited me to eat at her table, while pampering me extensively, as if I already occupied the position as son-in-law. Paulette was born in 1914 and died in 2004. Preceeded in death were her early children: Arlette (1937—1940), Gerard (1939—1940), Michelle (1940), and Bertrand. Chantal received her additional given names in honor of her deceased sisters.
Chantal later married a very nice military man named Bernard Triqueneaux, who has been faithfully at her side since, being a strong and loving man of his home and father to my son (adopted), Jimmy Marc Edwin Triqueneaux, and his son and daughter, Pascal and Marilyn. My son's lineage is: Jimmy Marc Edwin9 Ricks (Donald Milton8, William Roscoe7, William Edward6, John W.5, Ransom4, John3, Edward2, Jonas1).
Jimmy is the father if five children: Jennifer, Anthony, Stephen, Bryan, and Sarah Triqueneaux. The following photos will also include them and their surroundings. I take pride in being their grandfather:
