Maye's Attitude Poem
Rilla Maye Fowler was born 24 December 1912 in Wedowee,
Randolph County, Alabama; died 13 April 1961 at Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta,
Georgia; married William Roscoe Ricks 3 April 1941 at Fort Benning, Chattahoochee
County, Georgia. She was the daughter of William David Fowler and Mary
Carolina Vaughan, of Randolph County. Her grandparents were Francis Marion
Fowler and Mary McKilvery Halpin, of Randolph County; Stephen Thomas Vaughan,
of South Carolina, and Sophrona Doss, of Troupe County (?), Georgia. Her
great grandfathers were Samuel Fowler, of Georgia, and his wife Eunice
(Nicey) Pope, of South Carolina; James Halpin, of Monahan County, Ireland,
and his wife Matilda Wilson, of Cherokee County, Georgia; Richard Doss,
of South Carolina and his wife -?- Talbert, of Georgia. Samuel, a Revolutionary
War veteran, had previously lived in Dekalb County, Georgia, and James
Halpin had previously lived in Cherokee County, Georgia. Both died during
the Civil War but were not in the conflict.
