Editor: I asked others to identify on this photograph the location of the 220th Platoon at Marble Mountain: Here is an excellent response:
It’s a good bet that it is an early shot of Marble Mountain air facility. In the top left quadrant above the runway there are 6 quonset huts at the left side of the black area. The one closest to the runway would belong to the 220th platoon.
It was the operations center for the platoon. Continue a little closer to the runway and the small building would be the line shack where the tools, parts etc. were located. behind the quonset huts (left, in this picture) were the hootches
for the 282th Assault Helicopter Company (Black Cats). The first hootch behind the ops building, I think, was the one our platoon was quartered in (enlisted) and not sure which one housed the officers. Kind of funny that the Black Cats, and the
Catkillers shared the same area. Hope this helps, I really think it’s a perfect fit.
